10 Things I love about Australia

Australia is one of my favourite countries that I’ve visited. I have so much love for the place. It’s seriously awesome. If you’ve never visited, why not? Here’s 10 reasons why, in my opinion, it rocks!

1. Melbourne.

Melbourne was my favourite city in Australia and one of my favourite cities in the world. There’s so much to do and see. It’s so cultural and chilled out. I don’t think you could ever get bored! From some of the worlds best street art to famous museums and art galleries, Melbourne really is the capital of culture!

2. It’s so beautiful

The country is bursting with beauty. It has stunning beaches and coastlines with amazing views. Even just driving along the highway is a treat for the eyes.

3. It’s so diverse

This links to the previous point. Australia has it all. From cosmopolitan cities, stunning beaches, deserted islands, rugged coastline, tropical rainforests, gorgeous wine country and a huge expanse of desert, there really is something for everyone!

4. Home & Away and Neighbours

I know these may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but Home & Away and Neighbours are two of my favourite TV programmes. I don’t actually watch any of the UK soaps but I’ve watched both of these for as long as I can remember. Plus, anything that brought Chris Hemsworth into our lives can never be a bad thing!

5. Tim Tams

Apologies for the rubbish picture but it’s the only one I could find in my collection. These biscuits are similar to Penguins in the UK but better! Every time I was near a supermarket, I bought some. I even brought a stash home!

6. The people

I’ve never met an Australian I didn’t like! Seriously! They are the nicest people you will ever meet. So chilled out and friendly! Awesome people.

7. The animals

Don’t you think Australia has the best native animals? From seriously cute koalas and kangaroos (my personal favourites) to deadly sharks, spiders and snakes, they really have all bases covered! Not to mention the fascinating cassowary and wombats, platypus and possums!

8. The outdoor lifestyle

From my experience, Australians like to spend a lot of time outdoors and when you live in a country as beautiful as Australia, who can blame them!? Exercise and keep fit are important. In Cairns there were outdoor gyms, loads of people out running or participating in other sports. In Melbourne I witnessed many family’s enjoying days to the park, playing cricket, eating together, picnicking… There are loads of outdoor activities from extreme sports (skydiving, bungee jumping) to surfing and swimming to walking and hiking to mountain climbing to running to cycling to yoga. The perfect place to get fit!

9. The food

MEAT!!! Aussies love their meat! Barbecues are a regular occurance, with parks having poblic bbq’s you can use for a family afternoon out! They also have a wide range of vegetarian and healthy foods. Their cuisine is influenced by many other country’s including Asian so they really have something to suit all tastes!

10. The attitude

Finally, I love the Australian attitude of work to live. Yes work is important as it pays the bills but it’s not the most important thing in the world. Family and friends are so much more important! Sometimes I think we forget that work can wait and don’t enjoy enough simple pleasures in life. Enjoy life whilst you can as you never know what’s around the corner!

Do you agree with my list? What do you love about Australia?
